Jane Poem by Meghan McElroy

Jane

Jane oh Jane
My one and true love
Where are you?
Are you in New York or Europe?
I miss you so much
It’s been a year now
Since you left me
My hearts dying
Why can’t you be here?
We were once in love
Why can’t it be the same?
You made me feel warm inside
You were there when my Mother died
Jane I miss you
Come back please
Please stay with me
Jane?
Why did you leave?
Was it me?
I swear on my grave
I didn’t do anything
When I saw you go
I knew it was the end
I knew you weren’t coming back
But I still can’t let go
I still imagine you
Walking up my house front steps
To say, “Mark...i’m here.”
To say, “I love you so.”
At night
In my bed
But I have to deal
With the loss of my love
Sometimes
I feel so stupid
So stupid that I see you everywhere
I’ll turn down a street
You’re there
I look in the mirror
You’re behind me
I wish these weren’t fantasies
If only life was easy
I know i’m not the only one
But my life
Feels done
