Jerome Poem by Ross Lakes

Rating: 5.0

Plaid shirt, T-shirt,
White socks, dress brown shoes.
My brother wore plastic protection!
Complete with three pencils, seven pens,
A slide rule holstered ‘n ready for action.
Nerd vogue!

But behind the horned rims,
Between the furry earflaps of a rabbit skin Russian hat
Things happened:
Seven gears became just three.
Chickens died more efficiently, more easily,
And astronauts didn’t die at all.

Banjoes were understood when played.
A little brother’s guitar learned to play itself,
And a marriage was
Sacrosanct!

A loving and very accessible tribute. So much said so warmly with so few words. Very fine poetry as ever. jim
