Jhelum Poem by Sheikh Nissar

Jhelum

O' you calm silent flowing jheleum!
Have you forgotten the days?
When you drowned our vale,
And shrouded our ways,
And showth us thou art of death.
O' Jhelum, we were out of breath.

Glory of Red-Square got wings
And no city was ashore.
Clock-Tower was still
Counting hours "twenty and four"
And witnessed beast in anger
So artful in his hunger

O' Jhelum! So silent, so calm,
Have you forgotten the vale?
Thou art washed all her lovely tales
And welcome songs of nightingale.
Whose lap you emptied in a while
In latent ghastly style

Golden fields lost glory
Autumn songs uttered in the throat
And invisible blood by eyes
Rising from core of heart
While silence clasped wilted faces
And far off places

O' Jhelum! So quiet, so calm,
Have you forgotten your wily tantrum?
When you scattered us all
And we nestled in Holy sanctum.
Then, who impede you might
And freed us from you bite?

O' Jhelum! The pride of vale
We doesn't fear tyranny of "Vyeth"
Nor your hidden rage;
In anger you brought death
Look clock-tower stand still
And again peered through golden daffodil
