Job Description Poem by Jess Patterson

Job Description

The lights peel on
and flicker softly.
Did you ever see a job so fatal?
to love another
unrequitted.
Is to live in darkness
orbitting a mission that can never be fufilled
but to walk away
would be instant failure.
Offering anything.
Gaining nothing.
Losing everything.
Sheltered only by the arms wrapped around the originating source.
A detailed shot of the past
glancing down at dreams
and knowing the invisible yet powerful line that seperates the two.
When a photograph turns into a mirrage
and a house turns into rubble
than a past can be tucked away.
Only to be reopened
with every heartbeat.
When stealing the only chance
would cause the heart to stop
but sensing right from wrong
is detected by bystanders.
Challenged by ghosts.
So when the lights flicker
speeding
up.

flick the switch off.

Because I put my two weeks notice in from the very start.
