We started together; left Eden behind,
the bliss of such ignorance troubled the mind.
Our innocent childhood was slowly dismissed -
our passion for knowledge too strong to resist.
We went to the East then, in search of the Truth.
We journeyed together the days of our youth.
We studied with strangers to find what we'd lost.
We had to keep searching, whatever the cost.
We journeyed together; crossed water and sand -
lured by the hope of one more Promised Land.
We built our Utopias, time after time
then watched them all crumble and mourned their decline.
We travelled in hope on the Pioneer trail,
distracted by doubt, never finding the Grail.
Surveying the debris of our latest dreams,
we weep bitter tears, wonder what it all means.
Have our explorations of Truth been in vain?
We still lack some answers, we still feel the pain?
But the sweet light of reason shines bright up ahead,
if we focus on that we will know where to tread.
We'll travel together; the final mile home,
with new understanding we are not alone.
We'll build our new Eden with knowledge complete;
the fall will be over: we'll fall on our feet.
