Just For Today Poem by Kevin Moore

Just For Today

In my dreams you are always by my side
and I can almost touch you (but not quite) .
I can see that sparkle in the windows to
your soul, nearly taste your lips against mine -
but I awaken just before I feel
your gentle touch against my face or hear
that quiet splash of laughter that starts deep
within you and warms me just as sunshine
after rain brings a lightness to my steps.
Today, I wake up alive as I have
never been (aching for the dream now past) ,
eager for the day, ahead. Today, I will
live my life as I was meant and may long
for the day when I am awake and in
your arms, again. Today, I have learned to
hope where hope was once but a fragile thing
that someone else knew, long ago. Today,
I lay in bed, bathed in early morning
sun and I remember my dreams of you
with a flutter in my heart and a smile
dancing in my eyes and I am alive.
And I am grateful that I have one such
as you to take me into sleep, walk with
me as I dream and play across the theatre
of my mind’s eye with every brand new day.
