Katie Poem by Patrick O'Reilly

Katie

Katie please don't leave me this way
I know it's getting late
But my apartment is so quiet
When no one is around
Can't you stay a little longer
A little longer on the line
You see I need to talk to someone
To make things feel alright

There ain't much left to talk about
I've heard about your day
I told you all about my own
Heard the refrigerator hum
And I know you must be tired
Please just gimme a little more time
You see I need to talk to someone
Then I think I'll be alright

There's a pot there on the burner
Food for one and drinks for three
You know it never was supposed
To turn out this way
And I know I'm sounding desperate
It's a fact, I won't deny
But I just really need somebody
To stay with me awhile

It gets so bloody dark here
After the sun goes down
And my old records aren't much
To keep me company
Your voice is full of exhaustion
But it's not the aching kind
I just need to talk to someone
Then I think I'll be alright
