Kayaking Poem by Lisa L G.

Kayaking

I drive to a spot relaxing and surreal,
To a favorite body of water
I take my vest, paddle, wide-rimmed hat and boat from the car.

I take her down with wheels to the edge. She is a 14 ft Wilderness Systems Pungo 140, the color of a mango.

Donning my life-vest and hat, putting my paddle into the cockpit.
I slide myself into the ample space, and shove off from the shore of a favorite lake.

Using a foot I dangle from her side and my paddle in the sand, I shove off from shore into the liquid space.

we slide through the liquid effortlessly, gliding all 14 feet of her hull into the lake.

The earthy scent of Nature
fills my senses

Just the dip and splash of the
double-ended paddle is heard,
Once on the left, once on the right.

Herons, turtles, ducks, and fishes come to visit us,
as we track gently through the water.

Peacefully, in my ‘Yak.
