Keeping It Real Poem by Thomas King

Keeping It Real

I bury these feelings
Deep in my heart
To keep my soul
From falling apart

Push the memories back
To the deepest part of my mind
To a place I hope
I will never again find

Emotions and memories
So painful to bare
But I know I will be safe
As long as they are there

I will stand tall and strong
I can't dwell on the past
I must focus on the here and now
If I want happiness to last

I've come so far
And fought hard to heal
But understand I'm still a little broken
So I'm keeping real.
