Knowledge Poem by James Mills

Knowledge

Vast, inconsiderate as desert
lie, side by side,
the two.

The first, earth-old,
moss green, obscene
in its crude propriety,
slavering for sustenance
of word, or thought.
Shining over all,
shields embossed with -
Truth.

Call this - Sought for Knowledge.

Next -
corrupt as the dead of war.
Where shone divine light,
art and striving humanity,
bright as one million suns
burning,
loud as one million mouths
praying,
its fields all fields of victory
lasting.
All pity.
Dying.

Call this - Knowledge Gained.

Voracious. Insatiable. Eternal.

i'm a bit confused. i'm also feeling pretty rough this morning. but i like this in its abruptness. what i understand is you defining life, death in terms of knowledge sought, gained. Eternal: Glory is forever - that type deal? Sus~
