Came the day that Lancelot
wandered into Camelot,
never dreaming who or where he was.
Sights he'd never seen before,
sensations he could not ignore,
told him he'd found Paradise because,
when he saw the woman's face,
memories he couldn't place
drew him, unresisting, to her side.
Eagerly she turned to him,
took his hand and took him in
as they were overwhelmed by passion's tide.
But they were ignorant and blind
had so much Wisdom still to find,
fleeting was the pleasure they enjoyed.
Far too soon, they had to part,
leaving her a shattered heart
and him a lonely search to fill the void.
Lost in tears and misery,
one dreary dawn she chanced to see
a sparking jewel amidst the broken dream.
Reaching out from her despair
she touched the treasure lying there:
that proved to be more precious than it seemed.
Came the day that Lancelot
lost his way in Camelot.
running from his demons and his shame.
Wouldn't get her off his mind
until the day he'd wake to find
the king himself had staked a prior claim.
But there were other loves to taste-
other rainbows to be chased.
He was young and free and on his way.
But in the darkness, rainbows fade
and dulled the sharpness of his blade.
Yet still he lived to love another day.
Guinevere retreated to
an inner room whose only view
was through the eye of Wisdom into Hell.
But though a coward most the time,
she proved to have a fearless mind,
unflinchingly she faced what Truth must tell.
She took the Holy Grail she'd found
when all her dreams crashed to the ground
drank deeply of the spirit that it held.
Then slowly, over many years,
she healed her pain and dried her tears
until her vision cleared and Wisdom jelled.
Came the day that Lancelot
lost his heart in Camelot,
just as Guinevere had long ago.
A new love who was young and fair,
yet he had burdens left to bear
and still so many truths he did not know.
At first it seemed to auger well,
but time had harsher truths to tell
and Lancelot a soul he must explore.
So when the mirage disappeared,
he had to face the thing he feared,
the truth about this world and what it's for.
Came the day that Lancelot
lost the plot in Camelot,
dreaming of a past he'd never guessed.
Dreaming of a Holy Grail
that he had promised not to fail,
that he had laid in Avalon to rest.
But when he'd felt the need to part
from Guinevere and broke her heart,
he'd freed the Grail to fill the world with light.
and now the King, who never dies,
must heal his Kingdom; claim his prize
and bring salvation to a loyal knight.
Came the day that Lancelot
found his love in Camelot,
the kind of love that only truth inspires.
And Guinevere, whose Holy Grail,
had finally unchained the male,
with Truth to shield us all from Hell's cruel fires,
waited patiently until
her King was free to do his will
and claim the love he'd been too blind to see.
Sir Lancelot who did not fail,
true Guardian of the Holy Grail,
had served his Lord and found his destiny.
