Learning Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

Learning

Polished words
Don’t have impact
As benevolent
Music heals
Good government
Can’t help people
As much as
Good education
Its blessing
Treasure
And priceless
Service
Of the mankind
Former brings
Prosperity
And later enables
The people to be
Content.

Knowledge
Feelings of love
And respect
Human yen
Natural to all
Besides
Some get constrained
To acquire virtue
Through adversity
Kids of a concubine
Sot or condemned
Rickshaw puller
Or a daily wager
All have-nots
Having equipped
With greater values
Wisdom and skill
Than those grew up
In normal folks
Except a few
Exceptions
In conditions
As such
Top universities
And competitions
In situations
Hostile and adverse
I salute them all
And brand
As self-made.

There’s no
Human being
That’s not good
Human nature
Doesn’t show
Preference
For good or bad
Circumstances
Make them behave
Akin water
It doesn’t show
Preference
For east or west
Flawless flows
Downwards
Unless situations
Contrive
Making it behave
Against its nature
When splashing hand
On water shoots it
Up wards or
With a pump or dam
Forced to go up the hill
And there to remain.
