Learning To Be Happy Poem by Gideon Arthur

Learning To Be Happy

I was learning to be happy
And quick-swerve from the path of woes
To live like a childless nanny
Enjoying all that comes and goes

He hanged alone in a sad street
Calling me over and over
My choice: I joined the happy fleet
Happy though without a lover

Seconds, minutes, hours and It's gone
Back to myself; selfish glories
He came to me right in the dawn
Throwing at me sparkling candies

I am still learning to be glad
Not from the strength of a muscle
But glad though once a childless God
Who called me from dark to sparkle
