Lest We Wilt Poem by AtreyaSarma Uppaluri

Lest We Wilt

Lo, with his cronies is swaggering up the smart alec
We’ll be picked up and rudely tossed around his lumpish neck
Though only for a garland of notes his eyes ogle on the sly.
He lavishes his festering welter of promises so dry
Of each and everything to each and everyone about.
Hush up! Hurry up! Be quick! Let’s flee away and fade out
Ere the gullible gulp up his empty words with no doubt
And our virgin fragrance tender and sweet
Is despoiled by his dishonest sweat.
