Let Me Poem by Tessa Eichhorst

Let Me

Let me be, watch me grow. How will
I learn if I don't make mistakes, take
care of my own.

No, you don't want to see me figure life
out the way you did, but let me live.
More protective have you been since that
day, but take a look back, I'm not that
bad.

Yes, sometimes loud and argumentative,
but let me larn what kind of trouble I
get myself into- only help me out if I
show I need it.

You need to understand that I'm the only
one living this way. Other people close
to you have not strayed from this either.
Haven't you realized who was there when
it all fell apart? Haven't you realized I
put up with more outlandish behavior
than you deal with me?

I see your love, your protection, a sense
to rescue me so the road lays flat and
not curvey. Dear brother, I love you
tremendously, but one day you'll have
to take a step back and let me be.
