Let Me Stay In The Valley Poem by Valerie Christine Anderson

Let Me Stay In The Valley

I watched the sun
As over the mountain it went down
It was such a beautiful sight
But in my heart there was a frown.

It seems like just a few days ago
That at the top of that mountain I did stand
With victory in my heart
And Jesus holding my hand.

But when I was up on the mountaintop
The pressure was too much for me,
Then I asked God to help me breath
So He brought me down to the valley.

Oh, the mountaintop brought joy
And blessings beyond compare
But because it was so high
I couldn’t get any air.

Then down the mountain I came
So fast did I fall,
And when I hit the very bottom
It was only on Jesus I could call.

So I remembered that the God of the mountain
Is still the God in the valley
And the one who hid me in the cliffs
Would also let me lay with the lilies.

The valley was so dark
And no light could I see
Till He shown His light in my life
And showed me what the valley was making me.

He came with all His love
And with a soft voice He did say
“It’s in the valley that I’ll restore your soul
And I’ll help you keep on going day by day.

Then tonight when I looked at the mountain
My frown turned to a smile
Because I knew the God was all I needed
To help me go just one more mile.
