Let's Play Pretend Poem by Kirsty Simmons

Let's Play Pretend

I’ve been through this before
not a stranger to this feeling
a voice in the distance will ask
and the answer will be given
with a smile

This smile that has been convincing
to so many
and for a while there
you even had yourself
convinced

But those stains on your face
when none is around
you can’t deny anymore
although you can still
pretend

A precious heartbeat
is what get’s you up in the early
of the morning
but sometimes you feel like your losing
more than your winning

Will a life ever be free
or will it keep getting dragged
deeper and deeper until one day
it may not find it’s way
back

Will you keep living a lie
and bury this feeling away
just like you do everything else
in your sad little
life
