Let’s Take Our Cross

Who in the church is far too shy?
Sitting at Jesus’ feet
Who’s not prepared for Christ to die?
And witness on the street

“Take up your cross and follow me
And turn the other cheek”
Its not enough we bend our knee?
And go to church each week?

“Go north go south go east and west”
Life’s seed we each should sow
The Truth God gave to tell the rest
But who’s prepared to go?

Who for neighbours will suffer loss?
Who’ll fly God’s standard high
Take up for Christ their personal cross?
And daily their self deny

Of course salvation’s not by works
But are we lost and blind?
For woe betide the one who shirks
The plough they leave behind

Is it too much for God to ask?
His servants lend a hand
Shouldn’t it be our daily task?
To rise at His command

Are we not called to stand and fight?
Render our hearts of stone
To be The Lord a great delight
For God to call His own

Take courage; take in hand your sword
With bit between our teeth
For righteousness for Christ your Lord
To God our souls bequeath
