Lethal Intimacy Poem by Daniel Esekheigbe

Lethal Intimacy

It's hard to fight the urge to stare at your silhouette
As you gracefully yet powerfully traverse the floors of our abode
With your chin held high even when no one's watching

I stare and I say to myself,
'This is hurting'
Why it's hurting, I know not
It leaves my mind to wander
Is it because I envy your poise?
Or maybe, just maybe,
at some point my heart wrongfully beat for you
Like poison, you slowly traversed my veins
A poison so deadly yet so sweet
I savoured the pleasure, amidst pain so intense

I still bear the scars of the heated intimacy
When nothing separated our bodies
The burn of desire on one end
And innocence on the other
Even when it hurt I would always come back for more
To fill the void I barely knew I had

Were you truly innocent?
Or somewhere deep down in your cold heart you felt a little heat
The unexplainable desire to dominate
I guess I'll never know
For we speak not of these things
Those moments are forever buried in the sands of time
And we only reminisce about them in our silence
