Lies Poem by Adriana O'Connor

Lies

I had always loved the way you laughed
When you told me a joke i'd laugh so hard i'd fall on my butt
but then that one wonderfully faithful day in class
you came to me and said
i love you i need you will you say the same will you never cause me pain
i said yes and we loved forever
then that one day on the pier you asked again
i love you i need you will you say the same will you never cause me pain
i just nodded for i was at a loss of words and we lived together forever
then that one horrible day I asked
i love you i need you will you say the same will you never cause me pain
you just stood there like an idiot and took off down the isle
leaving me standing there mystified in my long white dress
i had loved you i had needed you and you always said the same you promised you'd never cause me pain
but now you run from everything i thought you loved
lies lies lies
