Life Don't Seem Half Bad Today Poem by chris schwartz

Life Don't Seem Half Bad Today

When you step outside
Just to catch your breath
And the cold dark night
Hits your chest
You watch the smoke rings
From your cigarette
Circle like frost
Into the night air.

It's just dark
And you're all alone
Everyone else
Is sitting on their thrones
The illusion is electrified
By an endless stream
Of one another's goodbyes

And the silence speaks a loud.
It echoes deep,
Within your head
It covers you like a cloud
As you curl up in your bed.
The night seems cruel
Daylight doesn't forget
The simplicity
Of yesterday.
But springtime bursts
Months later
And the rain refreshes
The greens of the past
You sink into the sound
Of tomorrow
New seasons come at last
Still you fight through the dreams
Of yesterday.
All you've been through
Can't take another day
Then the smoke
Filters round
Your dark half mooned cloud
And reminds you of yesterday.
Life don't seem so bad
Today.
