Life Game Poem by Brian Sonberg

Life Game

Forgive me please, my friend
I hear your breaths draw short
But I must thank you again

It is necessary to take your life
In order to prolong my own

I fear that you can't understand me
But I hope you're soothed by my monotones

The pain will end soon, I promise
You'll pass to the spirit world, I believe
You were a mighty foe, like a brother
For whom I will surely grieve

This is nature
I the hunter; you the hunted
A survival dance

Beauty and desire
Have no place in necessity
Just sadness and forward momentum
