Life's Lessons Poem by Heath Gunn

Life's Lessons

The dark descends around me, encasing me in cold.
As my life races onward, all too quickly I feel old.
No longer in a play ground, nor kicking round a ball.
And more damage I would do now, if I were to trip and fall.

As the aging process catches us, how fast we try to run.
Hunkered down on starting blocks, waiting for the gun.
But life is here for living, not wallowing in self.
So grab it firmly by the scruff, as you jump down from your shelf.

Make the most of every minute, cus’ seconds pass too quick.
Don’t waste life’s opportunities; they burn faster than a wick.
Hug a little longer, treasure every smile.
Enjoy each ray of sunshine, and go the extra mile.

For our lives too soon are over, like sand through fingers wide.
And the only thing you truly need is your loved ones by your side.
