Lifelines Poem by Laurence Overmire

Lifelines

Truth leaves a wound
When encountered
Unexpectedly, face-to-face with
The dark denizens of night

The scar
Marks the place where
Sacrifices have been made
Healing words over bloody altars

And gods appeased in the waning light of
Dusky understanding.
