Lightning Strike Poem by Damion Dunn

Lightning Strike

Rating: 5.0

It happened in an instant,
Momentary miracle of nature.
Terra firma anticipated this,
Great unbridled release of energy.
The Gods manifest.

Tendrils of liquid fire,
Coursing through the veins
Of thunderheads retracting.
The coiled fist concealing this
Dagger of divine judgment.

And from the earth comes forth,
In anticipation of meeting sky,
Single line of white blinding purity.
Snakes upwards
To meet the finger of Zeus.

The moment they connect
The world is lit,
And the moment is charged.
The air smells of burnt nobility,
This comes at a cost, atmospheric.

Worth it though,
It seems to me.
For such a stunning surreal display
Of natural wonder, in an instant
I am shocked.
