Like A Waterfall Poem by Riley Vogel

Like A Waterfall

I love you like a waterfall
sailing over the edge
of sanity
where I don't know
if there's a heaven or hell
and frankly don't care
as long as I'm with you.

I love you like a field trip
where it's something
new and exciting
and always an adventure
to a foreign place.
And whether it's because
I'm not in school
or because
it's somewhere new
doesn't matter
because I'm with you.

I love you like a turntable
twisting out beats
and rhymes
to lovers on the dance floor
where they make love
with their steps and rhythym
and when I move that pin
it's your face I see
in the scratches that come out
of the spinning vinyl LP

I love you like High School
where I walk down the halls
of ghost people
and see nothing but shadows
on the walls.
And yet, I see your name
in a text
or a call
and everything comes to life.

I don't know which is worse
that I love you more than myself
or that I know you love me more than yourself
and furthermore, this love
is a contraction of pain
we both have felt
as we knelt on the sidewalk
wondering who's out there for us.
And for me it's you.
I love you Lauren Yarnall, and always will.
