sittin on the side walk kickin in the dirt
smudges on their elbows chocolate on their shirt
their eyes fixed up & down the highway, their life aint really so bad
jus passin their time in the sunshine & waitin anxiously for their dad
well all kids have their heros aint really nuthin new
from superman to robinhood to c'pt kangaroo
but my boys are sumthang special & their hero is the same
their hero is a cowboy & daddy is his name
Racing down the cattle trail & stompin in the dirt;
With grimy lil' elbows & mustard on their shirt.
Shading their eyes a watching, along that 'ol dirt road.
Movement in ones pocket, Oops! He forgot 'bout the toad.
Black licorice swipes atop their hands, passin time aint that bad;
They stop as they listen; they know that familiar sound of dad.
As ones red cape is flitting, he imagines as most kids have a hero.
Saving the day, we're here to stay and counting, starting at zero.
Six guns a capping; fighting the villain is far from anything new.
There's Superman, Robin Hood and of course, Captain Kangaroo!
You see; my sons are very special, we've spoiled them to a 'T'.
And when you've finished reading this; you too will want to agree.
These boys are just so smitten & their hero is jus the same.
They're hero is a COWBOY and Daddy is his name.
