Listen To My Call Poem by joanna spencer

Listen To My Call

This world, I see destruction, despair
Anxiety, I yank and pull my hair

This clutching fear, lingering stress
This image which I will over and over again obsess

How to do, what to say
DAMNIT thoughts just GO AWAY!

Priorities are all torn and frayed
Because this evil has been okayed

When we crash, or when we fall
Will they still listen for our call?

Hey now, will you follow me, friend?
Follow me down into the end?

I’m screaming and crying out for the lost, tortured souls
Trying to turn half a man into so many wholes

They can’t hear, nor would they listen any way
But they will listen to the words He will say

“Come now children, away from this dark abyss,
scurry towards me, accept my fateful kiss.

With love and hope and happiness galore.
How on earth could you possibly ask for more? ”

And as this “safe” place comes up to mind
The children follow, assuming it is so kind

Though watch out young ones for you are biased
His gentle hand turns to a sturdy fist!

You break down now with out left dignity
I bet you are wishing you had listened to me

I warned you now, don’t let that leave you head
For, though some of you survived, most were left for dead.

I try to help, and save the rest
My heart pounding in my chest

I want to help and fix it all
But I just can’t help fix this fall

They should have listened, should have cared
That risk for life they hadn’t dared

They went for easy and found death
And took their fate of one last breath
