Live Like Lightning Poem by Kevin Patrick

Live Like Lightning

Spiders skate, drawing perfect figure 8s
cracks soon bloom, and infinity disintegrates
in crystal clouds, floating down to the underground
where naiads lurk, and moonlight softly drowns

now summer sulks in, with an Indians arrow
Extinguishing the dermis between bone and marrow
while flying saucers crashed into fine chinaware
the madhouse on the hill, has elected their mayor

twin somnambulist sob at the lighthouse keepers ball
watching a one legged ballerina never break a fall
freaks did the tango, in the gala of misfits
hiding in corners they form socialite resistance

and stars lay muzzled in black pits of tar
layered in coats of smoke like some honoured scars
Somewhere a bell strikes back at the frothed air
winds counter howl, no answer to your prayers

so you can hide in shade or live like lightning,
long in the gloom, or fast and brightly shining
the only thing certain is at the end waits the dark
Live it out today and be the brightest spark
