Living In The Lie Poem by Jennifer Gordon

Living In The Lie

You hide in your horrid fantasy.
Basing it off of reality.
Running away from what you know is there
Hiding in the closet
out of fear.
you know it is watching you
screaming out your name
begging you to come to it
but you run away
The truth, she laughs and mocks you for all that you have done
You blame her, because you know deep down she's won
you hate her for it.
you refuse to acknowledge her existence.
she doesn't even have to yell, or throw a misfit.
you can hear her whispers loud and clear.
As she grins her “evil” laugh,
Waves at you,
Toying with you,
you run into the dark.
Retreating there.
Where you make new friends with her twin.
you take her yang, and call him Yin.
Dub him her,
repaint the page
write the colors.
Brush it off and pretend it brand new
Mocking all that she is.
running towards her.
Declaring she is wrong, when you know, oh you know the truth.
But she doesn’t falter.
She doesn’t run away like you do.
She looks you in the eye.
Repeating the same thing over and over again.
they may believe you,
but you know.
you know all that it is to be.
her whispers haunt you in the dark.
Back to your hiding place.
But you walk in the sun, with your masked up bitter face.
pretending like you know Yin, when you know he is Yang.
and you laugh in the company of all Yang’s friends.
with eyes that Yin’s friends can see.
But you don’t care about them they aren’t apart of your mixed company.
Yet you are drawn to them
you are the push.
They are the pull.
they make you plummet,
while they fly
But it doesn’t matter because you prefer the lie.
