Lone Moon Poem by Boston Kelley

Lone Moon

Darkness envelopes the light of day
And births the calming, black night.
The moon chases the golden sun away;
So white is he and ever so bright.

He peers across the vast, lightless sky
Seeing the absence of his starry companions.
Their light, for ages, will not die,
Yet, that luminous sphere they will soon abandon.

His light alone shines over the land
As there is no one to share the task.
Grievous it is that he alone stands
And lacks a person in his light to bask.

All have journeyed to the realm of dreams;
They do not greet that brilliant pearl.
Lack is there of a face to gleam
Especially that of a fair girl.

His duty becomes a lengthy torment
While all do not acknowledge his being.
Oh, how he desires his own dismemberment!
This lone state he cannot bear experiencing.
