Lonely/Alone - Poem by Mary Ryan

Sometimes there is a day
When I want to lock the door, tell the world 'Go away.'
Sometimes I want to be alone
To be by myself, not even answer the phone
And there also comes a day
When it seems I have so much to say
Those are the times I don't want to be alone
I want to hear a knock on the door or a voice on the phone
But it seems when these days come to be
Nobody ever wants to talk to me
All the calls I make no one is home
Or talking to someone when I dial the phone
So alone in my room I try not to cry
Knowing the day will soon pass by
A loner I am not by choice or plan
And somedays I do just the best I can
Tomorrow I look to with a grateful heart
And think of it as a brand new start
