A small, dark, quiet room.
Walls bare of anything,
and another wall, filled with old photographs of departed people.
The sound of an old wall clock:
'Tick, tock, tick, tock...' etc.
An abandoned iron bed.
A person sits in the corner of the room in this midnight darkness,
leaning against the corner of their bed.
The sound of their heavy heartbeats:
'Thump, thump, thump, thump...'
Sometimes the beats race wildly,
and other times they slow as if about to stop.
The sound of a sigh followed by an exhale.
And
they lean their head, heavy with thoughts and the whirlpools of the past.
Eyes tearful and sleepy,
dark circles under the eyes
from sleeplessness and insomnia.
An inhale... an exhale... an inhale... an exhale... an inhale... a sigh and an exhale.
They extend their arms backward
and place them behind their head on the bed.
Their gaze falls upon an old photograph on the wall.
Despite the room's deep darkness, they see the picture with their heart and mind.
This photograph is of people who have passed away.
They recall old memories with them.
Their heartbeats slow down a little.
A moment of peace in their heart gives way to longing, then an overwhelming sadness.
From these sleepy, tearful eyes, a tear falls, then another, and more.
Then, involuntarily, a smile appears.
A smile merges with the tears.
An inhale.
A sigh and an exhale...
Prayers, seeking forgiveness, and glorifications.
Accepting the reality of their departure.
Grateful for the existence of memories, or even their photographs.
Suddenly fall a sleep.....
