Looking Poem by Laura Carie Dalton

Looking

Each time I close my eyes,
I see Andrew’s eyes in the rearview mirror.

His eyes look worried and concerned.

I had just told him about being bullied.

I was crying.

The car was silent when I was talking.

He is a good friend.

Once we were out of the car,
I sat on the trunk.

We talked and I got a side hug.

He cares.

I don’t have the same connection with him like I do with Matt.

Chances are, he’ll tell Aaron.

I don’t care.

I would rather have friends know about my life than,
A thousand strangers know about my personal life.

I feel closer to Andrew than I do with John Michael.

I’m willing to talk more in-depth with Andrew and Matt,
Not so much with others.

Andrew, you are the big brother I never had.

Matt, you are my very best friend whom I can always turn too.

I thank both of you for everything you have done.
