Lost Poem by joy williams

Lost

The gloom of night
Brings back constant memories
Of pain
Kicking, screaming, fighting
Hiding scars
Masking them under coco foundation
Yet your true foundation
No longer able to cover up
You see black eyes you can hide
Yet a defeated spirit
Broken by constant realm of abuse
Can never be hidden
Only so long when the outside can no longer
Keep the internal hidden
No self esteem
The mere mention of his name
No longer emerges a smile on your face
It rings fear
It echoes through your ears
As if your on top of the highest mountain alone
Cus all alone is really how you feel
You lie with this 'man'
Day in and day out
For years on end
Yet your sleeping
Living
Eating
With a stranger
'Who is this man? '
You ask yourself
You no longer recognize
Not due to poor vision
From black and blue eyes
But because your bond has disconnected
From the blows
The cheating
Lying
Yet as you look in the mirror
You soon realize
Not only do you know longer know him
But you no longer recognize
And have lost yourself
