Lost Innocence. Poem by Lynn Murfett

Lost Innocence.

The days have gone when kids could roam
barefoot on the street.
They must beware for they are there
syringes at the feet.

The days have good when kids could roam
all over the neighbourhood.
There's danger now at everyturn
people doing no good.

The days have gone when we could leave
the back door open for our families.
To come back home and get a shock,
some awful person has broken the lock.

The days of innocence have gone,
kids as young as eight or nine
know how to steel and get in strife,
what's happened to our family life?

It's sad to say our life of trust
is nothing now but dirt and dust.
Our only hope is for our young,
to wake up now before life is gone.
