Lotus Poem by Meredith Robinson

Lotus

Thick and still, bubbling froth
the thick dirt stirred by the road anew
but from beneath it grew.
a stock tall and slender
rising above the filth determined yet tender
Curious sunlight taps its top
unfolding layer upon layer of rank black glop
to reveal a flower so pure and white
Perfect example of a plant with might.
