Love? Poem by Michelle Tiddy

Love?

So, what is love? Really?
We're all sitting here writing
Penning our emotions on this stage
Pouring out hurts and crescendos
But, what is love on a page?

Is it pain, raw and deep?
A soul that truly completes us?
Someone with whom we can ride the swinging
Pendulum of feelings and fate
When our spirit is truly singing?

A connection of life and needs
A respect of character and dreams
What is it, this 'love'?
Can we describe it, do we know it?
Is it sent from above?

If you fall, is the last time
Further than the time before?
Do we feel harder because we know more?
We've garnered love's mysteries along the way
Or because we open, a little more, that door....

Love. How can such a small word.
Have so many angles, so many refractions
How can it be these four letters
Express so much, just too much!
Isn't there a word that sounds better?

Love, a whisper in a wind
A gentle melody of twinkling starlight
All consuming, all inspiring
All that's bad and good and ugly
All that's almighty and devouring.

What is love? Tell me.
Do you know, could you share?
Could you paint it on a rainbow.
Lie in the meadowsweet of life
Is it real? Tell me so.....
