Love And War Poem by Roy Ballard

Love And War

In love and war rules have no sway.
Mere chance decides who lives or dies
and war has snatched my love away.

This is a law we can't gainsay
however powerful and wise
'in love and war rules have no sway'.

Is it for this that lovers lay
their dear lives down and die like flies
and war has snatched my love away?

For 'Jam tomorrow, not today'
the sacrifice was made, for lies.
In love and war rules have no sway.

'It was a slight affair' they say
who planned the fatal enterprise
but war has snatched my love away.

It never takes a holiday,
war walks the world with stony eyes.
In love and war rules have no sway.

The world has nothing to allay
the grief when a true lover dies.
In love and war rules have no sway
and war has snatched my love away.
