To love is to lay down the guarded heart,
And yield to tides that pull beyond control;
To risk the self, yet gain a greater part,
A merging of two wills, a single soul.
No mastery can hold the force of this,
No pride can cage the flow that comes unbidden;
In letting go, we find a truer bliss,
A joy no clench of hands could have forbidden.
Through tender trust, the spirit learns to fly,
And fear dissolves where openness begins;
The self expands, yet humbly learns to lie
Within the other, knowing loss as wins.
O love, thou art surrender sweet and deep—
In yielding thus, the heart its treasure keeps.
