Love Is Poem by Mary Champion

Love Is

Love is…

The desire to have and eternally hold
treasures more precious than silver and gold: -

Comfort -the freedom from pain or constraint,
respect for our essence, no matter how quaint.

Completion - the hunger of each human soul
to find what it lacks, to be healed, to be whole.

The need for a meaning some instinct demands,
some sense of a purpose our mind understands.

Our longing for refuge, the need to take flight
from ill-defined menaces haunting our nights.

And then, there's the pleasure, the joy and delight
we feel in possessing what seems to feel right.

The fervour, elation the ecstatic bliss,
the thrill and excitement we cannot resist.

Such love can define us, enhance our self-worth,
the grail we have sought since the day of our birth.

Our heart will be drawn, like a moth to a flame,
returning at last to a source it can't name.
