Love Isn't Love Until Given Away Poem by Benjamin Davis

Love Isn't Love Until Given Away

Many people today will throw their love away
for many stupid and childish reasons
when it's easy to see, that their mates aren't happy
because its their own selves that they're busy pleasing.
Its as if love to these folks is really a joke
they say, "I love you, " because its nice to be heard
but if you'd enter their minds you'd probably find
that to them, love is just another four letter word.
However love to me is a necessity
its more precious than anything to be had
when you're getting and giving, it makes life more worth living
and is why most lonely people feel so bad.
But hear what I say, you must give love away
before it can be considered something that's true
its cool loving one's self, but be sure to love some one else
and make sure that the some one else loves you.
Love can not be stored, it must be shared and explored
in order to really reach it's full potential
it must be cared for a lot, and given all that you've got
plus being patient is really quite essential.
Love's not a game, no two loves are the same
and there's no such thing as a perfect human being
never judge a book by it's cover when considering a lover
for there's usually more to that person than you're seeing.
one thing that's no lie is true love does not die
regardless of what people may say
if love seemed dead in your heart tearing your life apart
its because you probably didn't give it away.
