There was a time I knew
When all my sorrows were few
But now the time is here
When there remains no cheer

I pass through each new day now
Wondering if I’ll make it through and how
My nights are troubled and so long
Always alone, without a song

My true love gone away
Even though he said he’d stay
Said he’d never leave me alone again
But his work and his life claimed him

He was my strength, my hope, my all
Said he would never let me fall
His leaving has left me crushed and broken
Destroyed, no words left to be spoken

My heart still beats somehow
I still breathe, just slower now
But I do not live, I only exist
I close my eyes, but I do not rest

No peace remains, for He is gone
