Love's Lesson Poem by Amy Lynn

Love's Lesson

Rating: 5.0

It's like a bullet through my heart
to see you standing here tonight
The life draining from your face
as I recall to you the fight
And you know how it will end
the story coming from my voice
How she had to be the one
and she didn't have a choice
So, you cannot go back home
until we know the area is clear
I'm sorry to bear this news
I know you don't wanna hear
But at least you didn't see her
strewn about the floor
The weapon by the bed frame,
her broken smile by the door
We swear we'll find the killer
but for now you need to rest
It's too late to be out wandering
please do as I request
Now I know this isn't easy
especially for you
We know how much you loved her
and what this put you through
But you need to stop and think
who the killer really was
It wasn't a simple person,
see the killer was your love
It smothered her to pieces
nside she was breaking down
Until she couldn't stand it
and her smile became a frown
And while there were nicer ways to do it
she had her mind set on this one
Because the last thing that you fought about
was that stupid gun
You said it was for protection,
to keep you safe at night
She thought maybe this way,
you'd know that she was right
But it's too late to fix it,
as the body's wheeled away
Your loved one's proved her point,
and you'll never be the same
Just remember what she taught you,
and treat each day as your last
So next time you're in love,
you won't lose it way too fast.
