Love's Betrayal Poem by Marilyn Davis

A broken heart and shattered dreams,
The legacy of lies and schemes,
Of tender love that ran its course,
Your misplaced trust, his scant remorse.

The lies that take you for a fool,
The constant hurt that breaks the rules,
They wear you down, destroy your soul,
And bit by bit they take their toll.

Until one day you cease to be,
And wonder, 'Was that really me? '
Who loved the man with such blind faith;
Thought no-one else could take his place?

But he'd moved on, long time before
You realised he'd closed the door,
On years of love, and hope and trust.
Your plans and dreams are all but dust.

But then a ray of hope appears,
Someone who wants to dry the tears
You've cried, until there were no more
To show the world the hurt you bore.

And in his gentle way, he tries
To banish all the hurt and lies,
That tore your heart and bruised your soul
He wants to heal you, make you whole.

So thank you Chris for being there,
To pick me up and show you care.
To give me hope of what could be,
Tread gently, for you tread on me.
