Madmen Poem by Ortiz Antwi

Madmen

I wake up every morning and I do not know what happened before
I shake off knowing I have everything under control.
With my malodorous attire I wander
An old mosquito with a walking stick dressed up like a man
A mosquito with swagger
I laugh out loud but with no one laughing with me.
The world looks strange. Is everyone blind? Do they not see what I'm seeing?
I want to ask them what has happened instead they ran away when I approach.

I eat any food I see; try it and you will get sick
Sometimes with no money I go to food vendors.
At the start they pay no heed
I tell myself "Be patient, it pays to wait"
Now I scare buyers away with no effort. Then she gives me food
Coupled with insults which sounds to me like
"Please pass by tomorrow too". Then I am left to consider.
My happiness, my sadness- my emotions all depends on people in my world

Suddenly it's night time. I feel tired
I know I've been roaming again.
Do I have a name? Have I a family? Do they care?
Hunted by my past I become less enthusiastic by the minute
No! I am not insane!
Who will wake me up from this dream?
Tears descend down my cheeks.
Feeling so sad I lie down at the ‘stop'
And hope tomorrow will be a better day.
