My Girl Companion Poem by Ortiz Antwi

My Girl Companion

And Adam said to Eve 'this is at last bone of my bone
And flesh of my flesh...'
But I say 'this is at last God's finest creation,
a missing angel from above.'
For she has made me lovesick
Oh you most beautiful one among women.
O girl companion of mine.
You have made my heart beat, o my sister, my bride,
You have made my heart beat by one of your eyes,
by one pendant of your necklace.

A tall black girl she is.
Do not you look at her because she is swarthy?
because the sun has caught sight of her.
Her skin is a paradise of pomegranates with the choicest fruits.
She has the physique of a god and a stupendous stature.
Her eyes are those of doves
Her neck is like an ivory tower.
She has a nose which is like providence house,
looking out toward cedi house.
Her bosom is like two young ones
The twins of a female gazelle
Her navel roll, oh her navel! Is a round bowl
filled with apple juice in perpetuity.
Her belly is a heap of wheat fenced about with lilies.
The carvings' of her thighs are like ornaments
the work of an artisan's hands.
She is altogether beautiful
Oh girl companion of mine and there are no defects in her
She has a smoothening voice that comfort's every crushed spirit.
My dear one is mine and I'm hers.

Like a lily among thorny weeds,
So is my girl companion among the daughters
Who is the woman that is looking down like the dawn,
Beautiful like the full moon and pure like the glowing sun?
How is your lover more than any other lady?
That you want to take an oath to her creator?
