Mahler's Last Poem (Through My Eyes) Poem by Meng Lim Dr

Mahler's Last Poem (Through My Eyes)

Mahler's last poem dated 17th May 1911
(through my eyes)

I die, as all others must
I die---only to live again-
every note I write
is with such tears and pain-

gone, but among the flowers
me there you'll find-
in every dawn and sunset
to love and beauty I still bind--

life is the endless symphony
that does all joys and sorrows encompass
earthly endurance is my resurrection
in my songs and my music I religiously trust.

Hark, an echo i is drifting in the cold night-air
ah, alas, how restful is my once-lonely heart!
sweetest slumber I must now embrace
as from this melancholic earth I gladly depart.
