Manhood Poem by Zhu Di

Manhood

I'm not my brother's keeper
That means I do have a brother
If I don't have a brother
I miss to be his keeper

Brotherhood is what
I've missed in my whole life
I only have a sister, whom
I dreamed like my brother

My sister is older and
Inevitably became a brother
I can never run away from her
Yet often find none

When I was bullied on the street
I wish I had a brother
When Mother wasn't home
I felt lucky to have an elder sister

As a younger brother
I'm annoyed to be heavily protected
Yet when I seek parental love
There's always someone ahead of me
Things have all changed, after
I moved away and overseas
No more protection but also
Little obligation, even if I wish for

Time eventually changes everything
I lost my parents and elder sister
One by one, sobbing overseas
The younger brother becoming a man
