I took a walk
to a pond
for a friend.
OK - I drove
but it was
to a pond
for a friend
on a promise.
I drove past the rock.
The rock
I thought was a boulder
when I was knee high to
a grasshopper.
I drove past the trees.
The trees
we would pick apples from.
We would eat
apples from the trees and
fish from the pond
along with homefries
and toast.
He showed me how
to plant
to hoe
to play ball
to camp.
From the garden we would have
tomatoes
and cucumbers
and radishes
and carrots
and corn on the cob.
We camped,
we hiked,
we fished,
we played softball,
we laughed at the Honeymooners and
the Odd Couple.
We rooted for the Yankees
So I took a walk
to a pond
for a friend.
